A Morning in Malibu, California | Hikes & Brunch

A few days ago, my family and I went on a spontaneous trip to Malibu to celebrate the start of Spring break! For as long as I’ve lived in/ near LA, I have only been to Malibu once or twice, so I was definitely excited to spend time here. And of course, nothing screams LA more than going on a hike and getting brunch ; )

Hike | Solstice Canyon Loop Trail

We arrived at the hike around 11 am, but spent forever trying to find a parking spot. There were very few spaces designated for hikers and they were all filled up, so we had to park about half a mile down the street by the ocean. I don’t know if this specific hike is always this crowded, but to be safe I do recommend taking an Uber or biking if you can.

These are a few pictures from our walk along the beach on our way to the hike:

Beside from the parking difficulties, the hike was amazing! The bright yellow wild flowers all over the mountains looked so pretty and the top of the mountain had a beautiful view of the ocean. The hike was mostly uphill and a little steeper than I expected, but I thought it was a fair challenge. It’s also super dog friendly and most people did actually bring dogs with them (which I loved)! But, we did see a rattlesnake in one of the bushes, so be cautious with your pet if you bring one.

There was a mini waterfall at the end and I think the “loop” part of the hike was meant for experienced hikers only, so we just ended up going back the same way we came. The waterfall was a nice way to celebrate making it through the uphill part of the hike!

Side note, I’m obsessed with tying this silk scarf from Madewell on purses and backpacks! Also, my top is from Urban Outfitters and my backpack is from the brand Herschel!

Overall, this hike is great for beginners, but I definitely recommend bringing water because it was extremely sunny, and the weather is only getting warmer and drier from here!

Brunch | Malibu Farm Pier Cafe

The pier also gave us a lot of difficulty with parking, so we walked another half mile to and from the pier. Hey, at least we got to burn off some last minute calories!

We decided to go to the cafe instead of the restaurant because it’s a lot cheaper and we were wayyy to hungry to wait any longer! I decided to order the Swedish mini pancakes (amazing, by the way), and I also tried this mocha latte. Overall, the whole atmosphere of the cafe was super relaxing and we had a nice overview of the ocean.

Here are a few more pictures I took along the pier:

Thank you so much for reading this post! Comment if you have any recommendations for hikes in the LA area, and also if you’ve gone to see the poppy fields!

  1. The ocean looks absolutely stunning – it must have been so nice to walk alongside it for a while. The brunch looks delicious too, brunch is definitely one of my favourite meals to have out! xx
